Black nano-TiO2!

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanocrystals are known to absorb UV light and do the water splitting magic. This is enoughly exciting. To make it more exciting, researchers have tried and still trying to get non-UV light absorbed by TiO2. Finally, Chen et al. (Prof. Samuel S. Mao group at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory & UC Berkeley) did just that. They managed to modify good old white TiO2into black disordered TiO2. Black means more light absorption of course and now it covers all UV, visible and infrared regions of the spectrum.
